The Seattle Times Co. will cut about 200 jobs

The Seattle Times Co. today told its staff that it will reduce the newspaper's workforce by about 200, through layoff and attrition, and cut $15 million from the company's operating budget this year. Those figures are approximate, says spokesperson Jill Mackie.

Agreement reached between Seattle Times and Hearst Corporation

While I wrote awhile back that The Seattle Times did a poor job of communicating to its readers and subscribers, I am now happy to see that The Times has done a great job explaining the JOA resolution. While the PI also ran an article explaining their position and the overall re …

Bush labeled 'big fat liar' by accident?

Tahlequah Daily Press of Tahlequah, Oklahoma has a curious way to adress our Commander in Chief: by accidentally calling him a "Big Fat Liar." Of course, this is a typesetters nightmare, but what can you do what the Frankie Muniz movie aired just before the President's Address?

Bill would free student press

A bill before the state Legislature would strip administrators of any authority to control what is printed — and make students liable for any fallout.

The Seattle Times "extends the brand"

Snow makes a mess of things, ice a concern overnight

This morning's snow made for a slippery commute. Rain that may freeze as temperatures drop tonight threaten more of the same.

The Digg Cache Proposal

I propose Digg Cache, a method to assist in slowing the 'digg effect' on small Web sites. The Digg Cache could be a sponsored application, owned by Digg.com, or even a third-party project that would allow connections (via Web services?) to build cached pages when outbound link …

Seattle PI 1, Seattle Times 0

Mysterious red cells might be aliens

As bizarre as it may seem, the sample jars brimming with cloudy, reddish rainwater in Godfrey Louis's laboratory in southern India may hold, well, aliens.

Belltown bar embraces cup: Opens sunrise for games.

Who says sports flags and stuffed mascots are the only way a bar embraces sport? The Whisky Bar (2000 2nd Avenue, Belltown) while devoid of Ichiro posters, banners or even etched mirrors emblazoned with team logos comes through with shining support for the coming World Cup soccer …

Approaching those you admire (for money)

I was reading a post over at the Newsvine blog about Journalism Payola. A couple things struck me as interesting: 1. "Injected news" is not uncommon. Hell, I was hired three years ago to help filter and promote the better of injected news for a major software company.
